Waukesha Judge Rules Fake Names Must Be Crossed Off By GAB

On Thursday afternoon, a Waukesha County judge ruled that the Wisconsin Government Accountability (“GAB”) must look for and eliminate duplicate recall signatures, illegible signatures and obviously fake names.  At a December meeting, a GAB representative had said all signatures that include a proper date and a Wisconsin address are presumed valid, even those of Mickey Mouse and Adolf Hitler. The GAB also said that they would only do a general review of the recall petitions and would not be entering the recall signor names into a database to look for duplicate names or other irregularities.

As a result, Friends of Scott Walker, Gov. Scott Walker’s Campaign, filed suit in Waukesha County Court, asking the court to rule on actions the GAB must take to remove duplicate signatures, illegible signatures and obviously fake names.  The Waukesha County Court granted declaratory relief as requested by Friends of Scott Walker.

The Court ordered the GAB  “to take such reasonable steps to strike duplicate signatures, ineligible signers/addresses and fictitious names.”  The Court stated that it is not requiring unlimited investigation and was giving the GAB discretion as to how to meet its statutory obligations and prioritize their review of the recall signatures.  In order to force a recall election of Gov. Walker, the recall committee must submit 540,208 valid signatures.

The recall committee has until January 17 to submit their recall petitions.

Can we really trust the GAB to honestly follow through??? I hope the Republicans still plan on trying to verify as many signatures as possible.

So they’re putting the GAB in charge of this? Nice joke. The GAB ought to be abolished and replaced by a similar board run by honorable men.

  4. the best part…they used a petition from the republican led recall (against holperin) to show what fraud looks like.

Wow, that is amazing…it seems that the Republican party of Wisconsin has the integrity to fight any and all voter fraud–wherever it rears its ugly head.

  5. This is a great ruling. However, are we talking legible printed names and addresses or legible signatures. There’s a big difference there. I know many Dr.’s that wouldn’t be able to sign their legal signature. That creates an irony right there.
