RECALL FRAUD: Racine Man Finds His Name 4 Times on Wanggaard Recall, Never Signed

By Collin Roth

On Wednesday, Citizens for Responsible Government in Racine reported that Racine native Jeff Demet’s name was found four times on the petition to recall Republican Senator Van Wanggaard. Finding the same signature four times is bad enough, but when Demet was contacted about the four signatures, he claims he never signed the Wanggaard recall petition at all!

This week, Ken Brown of CRG Racine was perusing the recall petitions for names he might recognize and came across his friend Jeff Demet. Brown thought this was interesting because not only does Demet not support the recall of Senator Wanggaard, but Demet even signed up with Verify The Recall to ensure his name was not on the recall petition.

Nevertheless, there he was was supposedly signing the recall petition four times.

Demet’s signature can be found on the following four Wanggaard recall petition pages:

According to Ken Brown of CRG Racine, the current theory is that Jeff Demet’s brother Mark may have signed Jeff’s name since he is a circulator on page 2755 and the handwriting is remarkably similar.

According to Brown, Demet’s recall forgery may not even be the extent of the fraud potentially perpetrated by Mark Demet:

Mary’s (Mary Demet, Jeff and Mark’s mother) signature as recorded above on form # 2755, is also located on form # 3428, which was also circulated by Mark Demet!  Not once but twice he knowingly either forged, or allowed to have forged his own Mothers signature!!
Also recorded twice was a “Jackson Demet”, who is the son of Mark..and is signed with 2 different addresses. One on Arlington…the other on Buckingham, in Sturtevant I believe. Mark also signed twice as himself on form #2509 with Sergio Angliano; and secondly on form #241, where Laura Betker was the circulator.

Brown told Media Trackers that the Racine County Sheriff has been contacted and an investigation is being launched.

The plight of Jeff Demet may seem simply like an awkward family prank, but it does show the ease with which duplicates and fraudulent signatures can be written on recall petitions.

Just one more reason to remain deeply skeptical of the number of signatures being reported by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. Or more accurately, four more reasons to remain skeptical.

But if they can’t use fraud how can they force their agenda on us?

  2. It’s hard to get a million names. Easier if you use multiples, dead folks, many Smiths etc. This isn’t about accuracy it’s about volume.

I Googled the address and came up with a different zip code than was listed on the petitions. Possibly Google maps problem, but maybe more signs of fraud.

  4. what if he signed his name four times and said he didnt so that he could say there was fraud? Or is that impossible?

    • So you think he signed on his brother’s petition so he could later claim he didn’t and have his brother be charged with fraud?? And his brother is going along with this plan? LOL

    • @k

Ummm….so where do you see that the brother is going along with it. I think the brother has denied signing his brothers name. Plus the article says “theory” what part of the word dont you understand. The thing is you think it as totally plausible that his brother signed his name 4 times and committed fraud, but totally out of the realm of possibility that he signed his name in order to make it look like fraud. Both scenarios would require an idiot.

    • His name is signed ON HIS BROTHER’S petition. His brother certified the names on his petition as being accurate. So his brother watched him sign, certified it as being correct, and now he claims he never signed. And he’s not shouting YES HE DID? If my sister signed my petition and then claimed she hadn’t, I wouldn’t go to jail for her, I’d say “the hell she didn’t”!

    • ah, yes. I missed that the brother was the one certifying the signatures. Certainly makes the other story less plausible.

Nice dollop of libel there, boys. See you in court.

Good luck with that. So your brother is a liar and commited fraud by signing 4 times and your son lives in two residences – and committed fraud by signing twice?

    • Mark I urge you to contact me ASAP. Not only has your brother denied signing. Several of your neighbors are now claiming you “witnessed” their names without their permission! Signed affidavits are being collected. My email is linked. BTW does your son Jackson live on Buckingham? Arlington or LaCrosse as his Facebook page states? Did Jackson sign the Dan Kapanke recall’s? Did he vote in LaCrosse in the Kapanke recall? I will be looking into that as well Mark!

  6. Who in the world has time to go through A MILLION signatures in that short amount of time???

Seriously – let’s do the math. The signatures have been out one week. He found his name on pages up to page 2755. 2755! That’s 400 pages a day for the last 7 days. that means if he spent 8 hours every day – like a work day – he’d have gone over 50 pages each hour. That’s a page a minute.

And that’s if he has absolutely nothing better to do with his time.

So, yeah – take away the fact that I’m sure he has better things to do with his time, the fact that he probably looked a page and said “oh – this isn’t near me…” and went on to the next…

    That’s still quite time consuming!

    • There are not a million signatures for Van Wanggaard. And his data base is online and listed alphabetically. It would only take seconds to find a name.

    • Who has the time to go thru 1 million signatures? The 11,000+ Verify the Recall volunteers doing data entry as we speak.

    • Not to mention there aren’t 1M signatures for Walker’s recall either. As mentioned in another story on this site, given the number of pages that were handed in, there would need to be an average of 6.5 signatures per page. Many pages have a maximum of 5 signatures per page, not to mention there are many 1-page/1-signatures as well.

      “…listed alphabetically…”

I know the pdfs of scanned petitions are online, but I’m not aware of a “listed alphabetically” data base. Can you provide a link for us?

      Never mind, I found it:

(the link is directly to a pdf found at his campaign web site)

      http://www.vanwanggaard.com/attachments/download/6/SD_21_Van_Wanggaard_Recall.pdf

    • And searchable
      vanwanggaard.com/attachments/download/6/SD_21_Van_Wanggaard_Recall.pdf

    • All pages aren’t full. Many times they only have a signature or two on them.

  7. The letter “a” in Racine is awefully unique and similar in all cases.

@Mark Demet – libel? how so?

Personally I’m interested in seeing how this plays out. Either you watched your brother sign the document and claim he’s lying when he says he didn’t sign it, you failed in your duty to watch & verify whoever signed it was who they say they were, or you know someone falsely signed your brothers name.

  9. Thanks to all the dedicated people undertaking the time consuming task of putting this data into a usable form – something the disgraceful GAB was unwilling to do.

  10. Mr. Demet from what I can see get yourself an attorney, you are going to need it. How’s your brother Greg, lives in Watertown, signed your form. You aren’t allowed to put fiction out there.

  11. Jeff, this was from the Wanggaard recall papers, no where near as many signatures to look through. And this was found initially by someone who didn’t sign looking for their name, they found it four times.

  12. The brother only certified ONE of the sheets. It’s possible Jeff really did sign once and he doesn’t want his friend to know he signed the recall. Maybe his friend decided to sign his name on other petitions or Jeff wanted to be sure his signature is not counted. It’t not illegal to sign more than once. I find it rather odd that some guy decided that he knew his friend didn’t sign. Really? How? Because he doesn’t want his rambling friend in his face. Or maybe Jeff is really his enemy and the person who is claiming this signed the other 3 times. We will never know.

    • “we will never know” Oh, I have a feeling we will. ;-)
Amazing how libs can justify anything they need to.

    • Hey Lola…. I have known Jeff for several years, we have business and personal friendship. he is a big supporter of Walker, Wangaard and generally anything Conservative. he even spoke with me several times in the past few months wondering if the Dems would gather the needed signatures or not. I instructed him in December to get his name on the Verify web site. I am 100% confident that he didn’t sign the list. He knew his brother was a Lefty nut. and his brother was boasting how he collected 150 or more signatures. This is not the only example I expect we will find. BTW LOLO did you see the video on TMJ 4? http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/138619284.html check it out!

  13. Ain’t that the truth Kozmic… Apparently Lola here has can’t see the truth in front of her face disease. Lola they are cheating, any attempt to justify really makes you look silly. There is more to this story that will be coming out.

  14. But… but… but… how could this possibly happen? Graeme Zielinski assured us that the state Democratic Party had a foolproof system in place to find and strike problem signatures, did he not? Graeme (who I adorned as “Louis” in the movie “Ghostbusters,” by the way) wouldn’t lie to us, would he? Oh, wait, what’s this here?

“Graeme Zielinski, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party, said the lawsuit wouldn’t end the effort to gather recall signatures against the governor. ‘We have a system in place to review signatures before we submit them to the GAB.’” (see http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/assembly-leader-wants-to-replace-state-elections-agency-5u3f2or-135669843.html).

    And then there’s this:

“The state Democratic Party has said it is reviewing signatures and plans to strike duplicate and problem signatures before submitting them Jan. 17″ (see http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/groups-behind-walker-recall-want-to-intervene-in-suit-against-elections-board-sd3h3pj-135962588.html).

What is going on here?! Well, now that a few measly duplicate signatures somehow managed to dance between the raindrops and slip Houdini-like past the Royal Guard of all signature vetting systems, surely the Democrats will take responsibility and use this experience to learn from and hone their impregnable firewall that is their signature verification process, right?

    Guess not.

What kind of a sick, demented, miscreant of a person could forge his own mother’s name? TWICE! Demet must’ve thought this up while playing part time wannabe cop guarding the empty warehouse! How pathetic we have become!

  16. Mark, don’t forget to give us a shout out if you make it to court TV, ok?

  17. There is also a deceased man’s name on form 2755—signature #5.

I did a search of Carmen Lassiter. There is a Carmen Lassiter who is an attorney in Kenosha. If it is the same person I would wonder how the state bar would view her involvement in this?

I believe in freedom of choice, but why should I have to pay for this ? I think to make recalls vaild they should use the polls. This is just like the process that takes place in the sand countries. UNIONS FROM ALL OVER ARE STATES ARE INVLOVED. UNREAL.

  20. I think Carmen Lassiter is fine. Unless she knows Mark Demet personally and thus allowed him to sign using his brothers name..she has committed no fraud that i can tell. But I hear her husband is a Public School teacher…If true thats a nice chunk of combined income for these 2. And asking them to pay a tiny bit more for GENEROUS health Care and contribute to their OWN pensions shouldn’t be too much burden to ask!

  21. How does this compare to previous recalls?

Is fraud trending up or trending down?

If it is trending down then we are already implementing sufficient improvements in the process and additional public scrutiny is likely to derail an already improving and effective process for auditing and misdirecting the press and public hysteria is a manipulation that must be stopped.
