He’s married, a father of three children and a self-described “Eagle Scout, church elder, usher and active member of the communities of the 6th Congressional District.” His name is Joe Leibham, he’s running for Congress and he’s going to Washington D.C. on July 23 to hold a fundraiser with a lobbyist tied to the D.C. Madam prostitution scandal.
According to a campaign e-mail, Leibham will be holding a fundraiser with Bill Broydrick, a former Democratic operative and elected official from Wisconsin who now works as a lobbyist in D.C. at the posh Capitol Hill Club, a favored hangout of the GOP’s well-heeled D.C. elite.
Broydrick is hosting the event with several other D.C. lobbyists.
Milwaukee television reporter and anchor Charles Benson of TMJ4 discovered that Broydrick’s phone number appeared 5 times in the call logs of the D.C. Madam. The logs were released by Deborah Jeane Palfrey in an attempt to build a defense in the prostitution case brought against her.
Broydrick hosted a fundraiser for Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke last fall at his D.C. home. At the time, RightWisconsin pointed out the lobbyist’s unseemly past by republishing a portion of the Associated Press story about his involvement with the D.C. Madam scandal.
A post on Leibham’s campaign Facebook page from early July declares, “It’s time to bring…family values back to Washington.”
A spokesman for state Sen. Glenn Grothman, who is also running in the Republican primary in WI-6, told Media Trackers, “The voters deserve better than another politician who’s willing to sacrifice the values they claim to hold in an attempt to buy an election.”
“Wisconsin’s top pro-family organization, Wisconsin Family Action, has endorsed Sen. Grothman’s campaign for Congress and has refused to endorse Sen. Leibham,” Grothman spokesman Brandon VerVelde noted. “They know that when the going gets tough, Sen. Grothman is on the side of conservative family values and Sen. Leibham is on the sidelines.”
