Two sources tell Media Trackers that one of the candidates pondering a run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin in 2018 has decided against it. The sources tell us that Nicole Schneider of the Green Bay area has decided against a run, apparently reaching her decision in the past couple of weeks. We have reached out to Schneider for confirmation but thus far she has not responded.
Schneider is a daughter-in-law of deceased Schneider National trucking company founder Donald Schneider. Media Trackers first reported that Schneider was considering a run. Had she entered the race, Schneider was seen as a likely self-financing candidate in what could be an expensive race. Shortly after Media Trackers mentioned her as a possible candidate, deleted tweets that challenged Schneider’s conservative bona fides surfaced.
Several other potential Republican candidates are considering a run, including U.S. Marine veteran and businessman Kevin Nicholson, State Senator Leah Vukmir and Madison businessman Eric Hovde.
If Schneider responds to our request for comment, this post will be updated.
