Baldwin Endorsed by Group Defending Terror Attacks on U.S. Soldiers
MILWAUKEE – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin has earned the endorsement of a group that defends terrorist attacks on U.S. soldiers. Baldwin has been endorsed by the innocuously named Council for a Livable World, a left-wing think-tank and advocacy partnership group that defends Iranian-backed terrorist attacks on U.S. soldiers in Iraq. According to the Council’s research center, the United States should not “threaten and insult Iran” by, among other things, “arresting Iranian representatives in Iraq.”
According to the U.S. State Department, Iran is responsible for providing advanced arms and training to terrorist and militia groups in Iraqi that waged war on coalition and Iraqi forces prior to the U.S. pullout. A State Department report on international terrorist activities in 2011 declares:
“Iran was responsible for the increase of lethal attacks on U.S. forces and provided militants with the capability to assemble explosives designed to defeat armored vehicles.”
A similar State Department report on international terrorism in 2009 also blames Iran for violent attacks on U.S. troops:
“The Qods Force [a part of the Iranian military] continued to supply Iraqi militants with Iranian-produced advanced rockets, sniper rifles, automatic weapons, and mortars that have killed Iraqi and Coalition Forces, as well as civilians.”
Iranian military officers were arrested in 2006 for working in Iraq to plan attacks on U.S. and Iraqi troops. Iran was also implicated in 2011 in a program that involved smuggling sophisticated equipment into Iraq for the construction of roadside bombs.
Iranians in Iraq have assisted in waging a bloody war on American soldiers, and U.S. forces have accordingly treated them as enemy combatants. That is a fundamental point that groups like the Council for a Livable World overlook, yet it is a proven fact noted by the State Department and media outlets.
“It is interesting that Rep. Baldwin would accept the endorsement of a group that defends terrorist attacks on U.S. soldiers serving their country overseas,” said Brian Sikma, communications director for Media Trackers. “The public should know that Rep. Baldwin is comfortable associating with people who apologize for, defend and stand with those who kill American troops.”
