Wisconsin Dem who Lauds Pope Supports Abortion

Policy

Wisconsin Democrat state Rep. Christine Sinicki, who lauded the visit of Pope Francis to the U.S. in September, is now pushing a position opposed to Church Doctrine.

Recently Rep. Sinicki added her name in support of Planned Parenthood in a Catholics for Choice ad published by POLITICO. The ad called for Catholics to stand with the signatory legislators in support of contraceptive services and abortions (both of which are against Catholic dogma).

Young Catholics for Choice, a part of Catholics for Choice, has been identified as a group that is opposed to Catholic dogma by Archbishop of Milwaukee Jerome Listecki. In 2009, Listecki issued a press release stating that while people can call themselves whatever they want, it was his duty to “state clearly and unequivocally that by professing and disseminating views in grave contradiction to Catholic teaching, members of organizations like ‘Young Catholics for Choice’ in fact disown their Catholic heritage, tragically distancing themselves from that communion with the Church to which they are called.”

Despite referring to herself as a “jaded Catholic,” Sinicki nevertheless was overjoyed at receiving an invitation to see Pope Francis at the White House when he visited the U.S. in September.

She “was profoundly moved” at the prospect of being able to see Pope Francis in person and sought to draw parallels between her work in the Wisconsin legislature and the humane caring that Pope Francis demonstrated saying, “It is the kind of humane caring he personifies that I’ve tried to bring to legislative work on issues that can be difficult for Catholics during 17 years in the state Assembly.”

Sinicki went on to cite Catholics for Choice as a “wonderful organization that has helped me examine and communicate more clearly about reproductive health from the perspectives of faith and public policy.
