Potential Paul Ryan Opponent’s “Deer in the Headlights Moment” on N.K.

Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea are as high as they’ve been since the ending of hostilities during the Korean War in 1953. President Trump Tuesday warned North Korea that if it threatens the United States again it would experience “fire and fury” the likes of which the world has never seen. North Korea responded by specifically threatening to attack Guam, a U.S. held territory.

With the world’s eye on the Korean peninsula, it seems an appropriate time to revisit an embarrassing moment for Democrat Randy Bryce, a potential challenger to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District next year. During an interview with CNN in early July, Bryce was stumped when asked about a recent North Korean missile test launch:

“I don’t have specifics. I haven’t seen exactly what — I don’t have information on what North Korea launched. I plan on going — we’re going to take a trip later this month to Washington. D.C. to get better educated on the issues, and I hope to have more information then. I mean, I have ideas and there are things I’d like to say. But right now, it would honestly be speculation,” Bryce said.

Being dumbfounded on the the most pressing foreign policy matter the U.S. currently faces wasn’t Bryce’s only embarrassing moment while being interviewed by CNN. As Media Trackers previously reported, Bryce also told CNN interviewers that a $32 trillion single payer health care system could be paid for by increasing taxes on the wealthy. That assertion left the CNN interviewers flabbergasted.

Things didn’t get much better for Bryce this week. A Facebook notice for an event featuring Bryce Tuesday night recycled an old campaign photo that left viewers with the impression Bryce was running for an office other than House of Representatives:

Media accounts have suggested the 2018 Ryan race bears watching. We will certainly be watching for the latest from Randy Bryce.
