Senate Only Able to Give Preliminary OK to Budget Repair Bill
Hours after days long debate on the budget repair bill ended with the Assembly voting for the bill, the Senate took up the issue. With all 14 Democrats still AWOL there wasn’t much debate on the bill, but there was no way it could pass and be sent to Governor Walker without at least one Democrat being present to give this spending bill a quorum.
While the action taken today by the senate hasn’t moved the bill to the executive branch, the voice vote that was taken did put the bill into a state where it can no longer be amended. This means that the elimination of collective bargaining for public unions will be intact.
There is still no timetable for Democrats to return to their jobs. Governor Walker is traveling around the state to publicly encourage these AWOL senators to get back to their job of representing the people.
